Will Social Media Bots Replace The Salespeople? | Business 2 ...

Social lead generation is HOT. I should know, I?ve used social media marketing, relationship building tactics to gain new customers and clients since the good ol? days of America Online (AOL). Yep, I just TOTALLY dated myself. ;) It?s a social media strategy that will never grow old?but can it be replaced by social media bots?

These days, you?ve got to be able to scale your time, resources and money in order to maximize your return. If you are not skilled at social networking, you either need to learn ASAP or you need to delegate those responsibilities to people like me or companies that can efficiently BUILD your social niche. Some companies claim their software can do all the work for you in attracting new customers and sales for your business.

Gaining customers has always been a social activity for businesses, but using online social networks to attract customers is a relatively new concept ? and businesses say the strategy could add unimagined power to an organization?s lead-generating operation.

Marshaling social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest to talk to existing customers about a brand and to attract more fans is common practice.

But new companies have sprung up that offer sales organizations the ability to mine social networks for potential buyers, as well as dissatisfied customers of their competitors, and current customers who may be interested in additional offerings.

But the trick is to foster lead generation ?without being too creepy,??More at Can Social Media Replace Salespeople? ? CNBC.com

And that?s an important key?.DON?T BE creepy! But how? It takes time. It takes connecting with people who share similar interests/values/passions. When you have something to share in common, it takes the ?creepy? of meeting someone new online and developing a ?relationship? with them out of the equation.

Why? Because you can be genuine with what you/they are interested in. Share your thoughts, experiences, etc about whatever it is you?re looking to connect on. From there, a sales process can begin (which I?ll go into detail on how to do that in another post) to see if that person is a prospect, a friend, or a worth-of-mouth social advocate for you, your company and/or your products.

?Social media alone will not get you those new customers,? said Dachis, since existing solutions are basically a passive filter of information. ?Real live salespeople will still have to follow up on those leads.??More at Can Social Media Replace Salespeople? ? CNBC.com

It?s so true. You or the company you hire to build your social community can get as many fans or Twitter followers imaginable, but big numbers are only truly good for the ego if they do not give you the results you are looking for which is at the end of the day, sales. You have to have people in place to respond to people, to ask questions, to sort through the people and social networks for the people who are ready for what you offer. A social sales person who is savvy in the prospecting sales process online is invaluable to your long term social media success. Not autobots that you schedule pre-canned sales content.
